It’s beauty queen versus beauty queen in the gay marriage debate at the moment. Current Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, recently told US radio show host Howard Stern that she supports gay marriage.
With only four weeks until she’s stripped of her crown anyway, the 23-year-old Venezuelan beauty queen was subjected to similar questioning to that of Miss California Carrie Prejean, but came to a very different conclusion.
“Why not?” said Mendoza, when Stern asked if gay marriage should be made legal. “I have gay friends very close and I love to see them happy…you do with your life whatever you want…why not?” Although, Mendoza did say that Miss California was entitled to her opinion.
Not known for hard-hitting journalism, Stern also asked Mendoza about her bowel movements, same sex attraction and being kidnapped.
“I cannot say no [to kissing a girl]...but I’m not into it. Maybe I could turn lesbian in a month,” Mendoza said.
”[Kidnapping] is something that happens in Venezuela if you’re out after 8pm,” says Mendoza, adding that because she came from a poor family, the kidnappers took $5 from her wallet and then paid for the then 19-year-old’s cab home, because it was a dangerous area.
